Dr. Eoghan Clifford

Eoghan Clifford (Chartered Engineer) is a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering, at the College of Engineering & Informatics NUI Galway and the Programme Director of the BSc Project & Construction Management (PCM) at NUI Galway and lectures in various transport, water and wastewater engineering modules.

He is also a visiting Research Fellow at the Athlone Institute of Technology. His key research and educational interests lie in the areas of water and wastewater process engineering, life cycle assessment, wastewater and water engineering and the development of tools and sustainable technology that can improve outcomes in these sectors. He is the Technical Director of INNOQUA a H2020 project (€ 8 m over 4 years) and has led other successful EU project consortia (Waternomics). He has led research projects with a value of over € 14 m as PI, co-PI or technical lead with direct funding to NUI Galway of € 4.6 m in the last 7 years (projects worth € 12 m since 2010).

His current research team comprises 16 research staff and postgraduate students. He has patented technologies in the water/wastewater field, has licenced two technologies and has a further patent application in progress. He is also collaborating with the technical University of Eindhoven on modelling the aerodynamics of Olympic and Paralympic cyclists and is currently working on a project to analyse the accuracy of the TRICS trip generation database for use in an Irish Context.

He also has a particular interest in policy development and improving educational outcomes and public awareness of the need for a more sustainable approach to resource consumption.

Eoghan currently manages €1.9m direct research funding, has published over 50 peer reviewed international journal papers and 3 international patents.
