Dr. Eoghan Clifford

Dr. Clifford was appointed a lecturer in Civil Engineering, NUI Galway in 2010. He has 11 years’ experience in the areas of water, wastewater, waste treatment and sustainable transport in industry and research. He currently manages over € 1.1 m of national research funding and is coordinator WATERNOMCS coordinator (FP7 €2.95 m). His research team comprises 16 postgraduate and research staff. As PI he has completed projects with a value of over € 2 m and has collaborated on projects worth a further € 2 m. He has had extensive national and international industry, academic and public body collaborations. Funding sources include EU FP7, Industry, EPA, SFI, Enterprise Ireland, NRA & DoTTS, and DoAFM. Key recent achievements include:

  • Design, commissioning and operation of numerous on-site research water and wastewater treatment and monitoring systems.
  • Dr. Clifford manages the NUI Galway/EPA Water Research Facility.
  • Co-inventor of 3 patented technologies (and has lodged 3 further invention disclosures).
  • 50 peer reviewed journal and conference publications, 30 national conference publications and numerous market, policy and technology reports for various public and private bodies.
  • Completed large scale pilot-scale technology demonstrations for 8 Irish SMEs in the last 2 years.
